115 downloads, thank you (and how we made the waiting room)115 downloads, obrigado (e como fizemos a sala de espera)

More than twice the 50 we celebrated a few days before. To say thanks, a short look at how the clinic was built.

Thank you, 115 downloads, plus how we made it

Doctor's Appointment has passed 115 downloads. That is more than twice the 50 we celebrated in the last update, and far more than we expected for a small free horror game about one waiting room.

Thank you to everyone who took a ticket. Thank you for the ratings, the comments, the messages, and for sharing it with friends. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, and reading what you thought of it has been the best part of making this game.

Behind the scenes

To say thanks, here is a short look at how the clinic was built:

  • The patients arrived as statues. The 3D characters came in a fixed T-pose, with no skeleton at all. So we wrote a script that gives each of them one: 52 bones, measured from the mesh itself. Every pose you see in the waiting room is written in code.
  • Then we broke the room, more than 70 ways. Every anomaly is a small change to the same room: something that moves, something missing, something that shouldn't be there, someone looking where they shouldn't.
  • And we hid the reset. There are no loading screens. Each time you walk through a door you go down a hallway that looks identical, and the waiting room behind you is rebuilt before you get back. You never see it happen.

What's next

We're still fixing what you report, so if something felt wrong (the bad kind of wrong, not the kind we put there on purpose), leave a comment here and we'll look at it.

Halloween is two weeks away. If you know someone who likes being scared, send them to the waiting room: 30 minutes, alone, lights off.

And if you've played it, a rating or a comment on this page really helps a small indie game get seen.

Thank you. Your number is 10.

Resumo em português. O artigo completo está em inglês: .

115 downloads!

30 minutos, sozinho, luzes apagadas. Se jogaste, uma avaliação ajuda muito. Obrigado!
